Luxor Temple: Built on and around the 4000-year-old site on ancient Thebes, Luxor temple is one of the world’s greatest open-air museums, a time capsule of a glorious long-gone era. Built by the New Kingdom pharaoh Amenophis III, the Luxor Temple is a strikingly graceful piece of architecture on the banks of the Nile. Originally joined to Karnak by an avenue of sphinxes, the temple sits on the site of an older sanctuary dedicated to the Theban train of Amun, Mut and Khons. This place is really immense. The columns rise up 50 feet and some statues about 25 feet. The place really swallows you. |
