The hot sand beach in the north island sits on volcanic activity.  The idea is to find a spot, and start digging a foot or so in the sand.  You will feel it get hot really fast, then take a bucket of ocean water and fill up the hole.  Instant hot tub!  We here the best is at night, but there are only 2 times a day to catch the tide, and this was it.  We suggest bringing some champagne for a night hot tub party.
