Spain: 8000 to 3000 BC people from North Africa known as the Iberians crossed the Strait of Gibraltar and settled the peninsula. Christianity came to Spain during the 1^st century AD and stayed until 711 when the Moors, Muslim Berbers and Arabs from North Africa crossed the Straight and defeated the last Visogoth King. By 714 the Muslims armies had occupied the entire peninsula, apart from some northern regions. Muslim domination was to last almost 800 years in parts of Spain.
