Santorini (Thira) - Around 1450 BC, the volcanic heart of Santorini exploded and sank, leaving an extraordinary landscape. The capital, Fira, perches on the caldera (submerged crater) on the west coast. While very pretty, Santorini is a bit too chi chi with it’s dozens of gold and jewelry stores catering for the people with the bucks coming in for the day from a cruise ship. The beach was very different with black sand, from remnants of the past volcano. It gives you quite a hot foot in the sun. Our friend Paul joined us from the US for some fun in the sun.
Travel Tip: Watch out for those stray horses walking down the street, they like to eat straw beach mats.
